Happy Martin Luther King Jr. Day!

Comrade King was a Democratic Socialist reverend who fulfilled a critical role in bringing about many civil rights for minority Americans.

Despite being bullied by the FBI into denouncing communism, he still openly associated with communists and labor organizers. Dr. King additionally opposed American imperialism in Vietnam.

Dr. King's last book, Where Do We Go From Here: Chaos or Community? (libgen link) is a firmly anti-capitalist work that advocates for the better treatment of impoverished Americans through radical policies.

Here's an audio recording of King's last speech. Here's the timestamp for the last two minutes of it if you're a lib.

King's Letter from a Birmingham Jail is mandatory reading for the honky horde, and it is perfect to quote and reference when engaging with lib brained racists.

And, because King was a Christian minister, it seems only right to bring up something biblical. Jesus' Sermon on the Mount is a very relevant part of King's politics, so it can be read here in Matthew chapters 5 to 7.

just had an exam today comrades, and, because its all digital, distanced and seperate, they where basically forced to let me use my full dyslexia extra time - WITH a "just incase the technology fucks up" grace period too. I actually fully finished an exam - and i think i might have done okay :comfy:

Watching the Chud boards go into a full Copium cascade with "Biden is Trump" is confirming that this is indeed the funniest timeline, because Biden will do nothing and nix every possible progressive agenda, and the Qanons will take it as confirmation they're right and Trump is still in charge.

After the immense amount of anti-China spam, I think the most obvious tell that the reddit news defaults are massively astroturfed by the intelligence services is the sheer amount and popularity of Alexei Navalny coverage

Yeah, I was under the impression Navalny wasn't that important in the eys of many Russians, all of a sudden I kept hearing about him on the radio and TV lately...

Free market neoliberals who still want to emulate the West have basically been entirely discredited and marginalized in Russian politics for over two decades.

Navalny's just the latest in a long line of "anti-corruption reformers" who becomes the darling of the moment for Western media coverage and lionized into some type of high-profile populist. In reality his party is almost entirely irrelevant and his only personal foray into politics was a run for mayor of Moscow where he got ~20% of the vote.

He's also serving the purpose of attempted assassinations of Russian dissidents getting flattened and pinned on Putin by Western media. See also: Sergei Skripal. These low-level players piss off some oligarch or mafia boss or another and get merked by poison, which Western media then mutates into being "Putin's calling card" and using as an excuse for tightening the national security state against the spooky Russian spies. Almost no actual evidence ever surfaces that Putin was responsible.

is there no hope for Russia? From a leftist, not liberal, pov of course.

I mean they're not going communist anytime soon and their communist party has been well tamed by their new ruling class.

So much of what is wrong with Russian politics stems directly from the consequences of the Soviet suicide and constant American meddling. Putin is portrayed by Western media as some sinister Sauron-esque figure when he's a fucking moderate balancing precarious competing interests.

Russia gets demonized constantly because they vociferously object to a hostile military alliance encircling them and moving troops up to their borders. Theyre really not that bad in the grand scheme, most of what they do in terms of "imperialism" is reaction to American moves and mistreatment.

Listening to my dad talk about how the bipartisan socialist consensus is going to tank the value of the US dollar by giving everyone free money for life and just nodding as I fill out my rent payment.

This is like some dude stranded in the desert complaining about how rain storms can really ruin people's picnics.

Ah, so it's more of the classic "if it rains over in the desert, my picnic here will be ruined!"

Pretty much, although he thinks everyone is either at a picnic or too lazy to walk there.

Basically he bought into the "austerity will make you rich!" line that Reagan sold and never changed course.

I hate that when I'm feeling mildly annoyed or sad, I have the urge to buy shit to cheer myself up. It's a grey Monday, I wanna order like a dozen random books. Will I read any of these books in 2021? Who cares as long as I can click that "buy" button! Consumerism is a fuck.

I have this issue too, shopping was my parents' primary coping skill and they heavily reinforced the idea that purchases = love when I was a kid. I deal with it now by making really long wishlists of items that I never actually buy. Or if it gets really bad, spending like $3 on Aliexpress

One of the reasons I was so grateful for access to my library - I'd go over, browse, grab a bunch of books and it'd work just as well as buying. But with corona everything's closed... :') I think I just wanna have new things to look at, whether they're bought or not.

I think it's not quite the same feeling in my head as walking through a physical library and scooping up any book that catches my eye like I'm swimming in cash 😂 I get my eshopping thrills by going on a book piracy page on VK and scrolling through the random books they have up like I'm strolling through a bookstore

I heard a lot about the "Information Superhighway" as a kid, but nobody told me the magical future all this technological advancement would lead to would involve machine learning algorithms that recommend me videos where chicks in lowcut tops eat potato chips or brush their hair for an hour

Outside my apartment, they parked a pair of those giant freezer trucks that got converted to morgues.

Living next to a hospital is eerie as fuck rn.
