I always wonder what kind of misanthropy this shit could engender in people who really believe it. Like, it it were really that easy to avoid poverty, and getting rich was just about doing the opposite of the stuff on their list, that would basically leave you with the conclusion that the vast majority of people are just shitty. Just seems bleak.
I was literally taught this as a child, that everyone who didn't have money was just really bad at managing their finances. But I was like, well, maybe not everyone is very good at numbers - shouldn't we, y'know, help them? Instead of just letting people become homeless because they can't count very well? Just one of the many questions I had that the adults avoided answering...
