Like I can understand if an American outlet mentioned American citizens dying abroad but this is weird.

Those on board included Ukrainian, German and French citizens, according to Venice prefect Michele Di Bari. Two of the dead were children. The Italian driver, aged 40, was also killed, Di Bari said.

You know how YouTubers game the algorithm? Journalists at the same outlet do the same. "Ukraine" gets more clicks, more clicks = better KPIs for raises.

Ukraine is Israel. If you make the mistake of watching live CNN, their treatment of Ukraine is identical to Israel, with the words “Israel” and “Palestine” just changed to “Ukraine” and “Russia.” Ukraine, like Israel, is also always responding to attacks and never provoking them.

I mean they're perfectly compatible ideologies when you realize Israel is just European white supremacy and settler colonialism cloaking itself in Jewish nationalism. Also when you realize that nazis are capable of forming strategic alliances with people they temporarily deem "Honorary Aryans". If the Ukrainian nazis want to team up with Israeli zionists against communists, slavs and roma, that doesn't contradict their underlying nazi ideology at all. It's just realpolitik.

Ukrainians are like dogs now, liberals feeling impotently sad about their deaths specifically generates traffic.

Dunno. Maybe their script pulled a variation of the press release intended for Ukraine or Cananda or something?

Of course, but the point here is that the level of special interest in Ukrainians outside of any Ukrainian political context is bizarre

Not to jump in the trenches for AP but it's the same practice just applied to "group of people that are generally cared about atm" internationally
