I've done so in the past, and still do if you count videos game. Part of it is a desire for artists to be compensated for their work. I realize they probably see very little - if any - of that money... but... at least it signals they should still be given the means to create and distribute?
I'm also incredibly lazy. Been meaning to look into piracy... but, there's only so much free time and I have a lot of "Been Meaning To"s. Of course, DRM is still a fucking atrocious practice that flies in the face of computing's anarchist roots.
i very much wish for artists to be compensated for their work. and if I can pay them directly I will. I love doing this.
but I will never pay money for a DRMed product, and if I want it, I'll pirate it.
and it feels better to consume freely, like the internet is some sort of free space where we have freedom or something. that is worth so much, not staining every single fucking thing with capitalism.
I'm thinking especially of small anarchist factions, like farmers in Chiapas. If global DRM continues in the trend it has it could be a massive loss of autonomy for these communities.
luckily; most anarchists know at least one competent hacker. i just wish more were hardcore black hats who would break shit for the sake of breaking shit.
Oh god. This comment sucks.
"Congrats, you successfully seized the means of production. Now please log into this factory with your two-factor authentication."
for a bit of a bright spot: there's a booming hacking scene among farmers. its kind of a big deal :anarkitty:
Yeah I'm following somewhat, it's sick. Generally the right-to-repair movement is also something that needs to be supported.
im very against DRM. SO very against it.
I cannot fathom why anyone would spend money or DRMed media when they could pirate. my brain literally breaks to it.

yeah did we forget that tractors are DRMed to fuck and back nowadays?
we did, didn't we? who gets to tell the fascists?

i feel like that's the point.
