The urge to spread one’s own “values” by force to “backwards” nations is an imperialist and chauvinist urge that gets used justify imperialist war that actually sets that backwards country back even further (what “backwards” countries really require is peace, stability, development and education not war, instability, destruction and brain drain). Anytime you start thinking “my country is better on x principle, therefore we should war with an enemy country to spread our ideals” you should definitely consider deeply if you are just being a stooge falling for imperialist intrigue. I generally agree but this is lame compared to, like, "orientalism" or even just the original "White Man's Burden" or perhaps "Western Power's Burden".
