Can't the shorters just say "okay then, fuck it" and pour even more money into gamestop so it does go to the moon but they don't go bankrupt?

I mean i get the meme but if this isn't about fucking the hedge funds i don't even know what it's doing on the site.

No. The shorters borrowed other peoples' shares and sold them, and are required to buy them back by a certain date and are responsible for any gains/losses in that time period. Making the stock go even higher would just fuck over the shorters even more than they already are, because they'd owe that much more money when it comes time to buy back the shares to give back to the people they borrowed them from.

They lose money everyday they don’t cover, and eventually the broker they bought the shares from will margin call them, forcing them to buy all outstanding shares at any price available, even if it bankrupts them.

No. They have too many shorts. They wouldn’t even make that much money by doing that. And they were too they still have lost billions. $175 is where they have to liquidate and we’re already at $200+ tonight. Not to mention they’re doubling down still and buying more shorts

So they borrowed other people's shares and have to return them. And its not just a few, GameStop is currently shorted at 140% meaning there are more short contracts than there are shares of GME in circulation right now. Hedge funds will be forced to close those contracts and then a bunch of reddit nerds (like me) are going to sell some boomer billionaires GME stock for an insane amount per share. Oh, and they have to pay money everyday the stock is in the green meaning they can't long con it, there is more pressure everyday to move off the shorts. I am an idiot and I just read this from reddit. I also currently own 65 shares of GME lmaooooo
