I've been thinking about the radicalization thing all day. Here's the issue. You have a group of frustrated people, alienated by capitalism. Yes there's some very comfortable people on r/wsb who are just playing a game. I'm not talking about them. There's also a lot of kids who aren't going to know what they are for a while. Then there's the schlubs who thinks they can gamble enough to pay off their student loans or get momma's hoof surgery.

We know we're not going to get $2000 checks. We're going to be lucky to get $1200 checks by April. So there's no help coming. These people are up against a wall, they've resorted to gambling.

If this shit works out and enough people make money off GME, even if it's not lambo money, then that will be a problem. These people who have been abandoned by their government will suddenly get a few hundred dollars and realize how great capitalism is. They will think that the government can't help them, and the only way to meet material needs is to participate in capitalism on this level. To put money into their hands is a powerful thing. It's meeting their needs in a way no political party or government has been able to do. This will be a barrier to radicalizing them against capitalism. You won't be able to tell them to abandon the panremovedo game that just gave them money in favor of waiting on the government to do stuff.

Obviously we understand what getting money from line go up really means. We can contextualize it and engage with it without turning into a capitalist. But some struggling person who just got in on this will only see cash in their hand.

It's funny this is happening. Under Trump we got socialism (obviously I'm using that word this way for effect), twice. We get checks from the government. Under Biden, no checks but the free market meets our needs. They really are opposites. Contradictions. They themselves are contradictions and are contradictions of one another while existing in a contradictory world.

Good post, hopefully the inherent ridiculousness of the situation will help to mitigate that. Also what was panremovedo supposed to be??
