Apparently she is a survivor herself.

Edit: aaaaaaaand the libs are co-opting this of course.... I’m proud of AOC for sharing her story. I wouldn’t be nearly as brave or intelligent when I was her age. critical support, as usual. AOC good today. Who knows what tomorrow holds.

Zero support for the capitol rioters - they're enemies. But the initial liberal/mainstream reaction to it was exaggerated. At that point, all we knew was that a mass of demonstrators broke through flimsy police lines/was welcomed in, loitered for an hour or two max, then left. Calling such civil disobedience "terrorism" or a "fascist coup" is A) inaccurate, B) opens the way for greater police repression, the bulk of which is always anti-left.

The scarier details of the events (though still not entirely clear) only came out later - like now. Hard to judge something before you have all the evidence. Now it seems a bit flipped - there were some rioters with murderous intent and perhaps some danger of greater casualties, BUT the Democrats are calling for unity with Republicans.

Still, the dangerous element here was whoever purposefully weakened the police defenses (getting 9/11 flashbacks): either the Trump administration or just far-right cops. The mob itself, even with its most dangerous elements, was no organized insurrection, no putsch. They only became dangerous because the cops stood down (or were drawn down). That's who the investigators should go after. Fuck Ted Cruz and Trump, but pointing the finger at them in public is participating in the clown show.

Chomsky radlibs who don't understand Marxism but see everything in the idealistic lens of "the Overton window" and "manufacturing consent"

There was talk of a second Patriot Act. That was aimed at (ostensibly far-right) Wahhabists, then applied to everyone, especially OWS/BLM. We should repress the reactionaries, not empower the existing state to do so.

I think the key is you said riot. I am on board with riot. I think my issue is with calling it a coup. Calling that thing a coup attempt is an insult to actual coups.

Can you think of a reason why middle class white settlers sympathize with other petit bourgeois fascists?

I think most people saw the riots as funny and dopey for the most part (and I agree), but undeniably there was also a threat to the lives of Congresspeople, including AOC, Tlaib, and Ilhan Omar.
