This is only tangentially related but it's extremely troubling to me that every woman I know has either been a victim of sexual violence or has at least had multiple close calls. It's so fucking common and it's barely ever acknowledged, let alone anything done about it.
Imagine the time I realized I was basically describing myself as "one of the lucky ones" because my brushes with sexual violence have never gone beyond threats. Yay! So lucky. I just had to stop for a minute and think about how fucked up that is.
