There’s something inherently repulsive about smarmy liberal language, and the juxtaposition with Playboy is just too much

My wife's hooked on Tiktok and what she gets on it is very different from the default experience. It is as you say: insidiously targeting particularly interests to be as habit forming as possible.

I still can't even believe that shit is a real app. You just dance to some music or whatever while text appears on the screen? Feels like some shit they make up for a crappy live action nickelodeon show for kids.

      New site tagline just dropped

This is my boomer moment for sure, but I have a fair number of same-aged friends who watch TikTok basically nonstop and I just don't get it. Vines were good, but that was mostly because it was 95% comedy sketches built around the format. Outside of that niche, short-form videos (on what is easily the world's worst video player UI) just kinda suck. Either they're too short to get to the good stuff, or have to cut a ton of context to fit the time limit, or are just people dancing over TTS.

It just feels like weaponized attention deficits. Youtube is a much better platform, minus all the Nazis.
