It was acceptable in online lefty and liberal spaces to be openly transphobic basically until Republicans and Canadian conservatives made it a culture war issue. I legitimately think a lot of liberals who are pro trans rights are coming purely from a "Jordan Peterson is cringe" angle, but take victories where you can I suppose.
