I just saw the megathread on reddit that they got 56 votes in the senate that said the trial was constitutional. Does the fact they only got 6 Republican votes basically prove they're not gonna have near the votes necessary to actually convict Trump and following this whole drama is pointless?

They need to go the whole 9 yards and convict him to stop him from running again I think, which ain't gonna happen.
Even if it did happen I don’t think it would stop him from running again. He’d just say it was an unconstitutional impeachment and the GOP would roll with it. Hell, Ted Cruz was literally born in Canada and they didn’t stop him from running.
