They were based epic supersoldiers like in the Halo treats. That's as far as he read about them.
I don't think he truly understands the irony of what he typed, 'cos the Helots regularly revolted against Spartan rule until eventually they successfully overthrew them and Athens had to intervene to stop Sparta being completely destroyed.
He also tweeted that the US needed a Sulla to save it. Even though everything Sulla did was completely undone and the Republic ended anyway in like one generation after. (Not to mention everything else wrong with that idea)
