I'm a progressive but

I also see a lot of comments that are super similar, accusing Palestinians of causing civil unrest in neighboring countries that have taken them in. Bot spam or a concerted propaganda push

As a leftist myself, I’ve never understood our insistence on taking refugees and immigrants that cause trouble and would rather make their new country into their old country instead of integrating in to their new home.

    Fuck off and die.

Damn, I wonder why wrongly displaced people could possibly cause civil unrest. Can't they just be happy in their new homes?maybe-later-honey

I was a clueless lib back then and even I was horrified by what those people were saying.

I think some of the issues that they had in Sweden and Germany around the holidays, where these assaults or alleged assaults happened were concerning and those that did them should be punished, but it was of course the right wing taking a real issue and running with it to close down the borders and "send them all back"

It’s a big part of how/why Israel was formed in the first place! Both the US and UK refused to take in Jewish refugees en masse after the war and instead directed them to Israel. This very conveniently allowed them to further depopulate Europe of Jewish people while appearing to have the moral high ground.

It can easily be internalized propaganda or a simplistic view of the issues on receiving big immigration waves without proper support for such groups. I know I was in the later camp at some points.
