It's the most infuriating thing about the genre. It's one of the only genres of music that helps my mental health because the anger and fierce riffs calm me down and then I find out one of the band members is a nazi. And suddenly I'm right back to being mad and uncomfortable.

Any other BM bands w/o nazi ties? I've listened to Naglfar and Panopticon and they're both pretty solid, but don't know much else outside the early Norwegian BM scene

Immortal was never involved in any nastiness AFAIK(please don't anyone break my heart here) ...if you don't otherwise mind them essentially being the Manowar of black metal in terms of silly cheese

The only time I've ever seen any of the Immortal guys mention Varg was guitarist/vocalist Abbath looking straight at the camera and going "Fuck Varg!" so they're probably in the clear lol. Also, love the cheese.

Enslaved have clearly stated that they want nothing to do with fascism in the scene, which is especially cool seeing as how their stuff is so heavily based on old norse myths

Havukruunu / Mare Cognitum / Spectral Lore / Yellow Eyes / Wolves in the Throne Room

There are some small labels like Syrup Moose Records that try to push lefty bands

If you don't mind digging through underground stuff go look at releases with the "rabm" tag on bandcamp

Danger of doxxing myself but I got to see Wolves in a super small venue, they put on a great show.

There's this list I found - written by an anarchist who hates "tankies", but I suppose at least it tells what bands are cringe

That reminded me of r/rabm, that I used plenty to keep track of the nazis and get some good recommendations. To my surprise, there's a 2 years old Lemmy community for it: !rabm@lemmy.ml

It's in dire need of activity, but it exists.

That's why I'm into EBM/Industrial. Aggressive, rhythmic, usually pissed off sounding and the likelihood of bad politics is comparatively low (even though there are some suspicious band names).

Unfortunately, there's not a lot of it, it being basically a fad of the years 1989-1991.

EBM/ industrial/ is some good stuff, I think it will have a Renaissance, it's due for it 👍
