The new media argument is that Facebook doesn’t derive revenue from the content, and, in fact drives viewers to old media who wouldn’t otherwise see it.
It’s a complex situation, because Facebook needs to have news on it so that it can provide a complete information service. But right now, Facebook is the best conduit for old media to get to viewers.
If old media holds out, we could see a disruption. Or we could just see a negotiation between old and new. It’s all up in the air.
