These photos mostly depress me. Imagine growing up there, and being proud of your nation, its people, and all of its accomplishments. An example to the world of a worker's state. Perhaps needing reform, but still an alternative to the ravages of capitalist greed.
And then one day it's just all gone. You're old now, and your entire society and way of life has vanished. Wars break out in the former republics. You die in 1993: destitute, cold, and knowing that this once shining light was destroyed from within.
