If were gonna have a music board, I'd rather have it look like the r slash heads community because this is boring. Grateful dead & Brand New? Not exactly blowing minds out here
What’s wrong with people posting a dope track people might not have listened to in a while? It’s hardly like people are posting tracks from the top 40. It’s chill seeing what other chapos are into and listening too without it being some obscurity clout battle
I just think in general that could be a thread of its own. There's a ton to discuss about music, but most boards turn into just that because its kind of low hanging fruit
enough splintering. you still have the tenets of Reddit within you to want a separate area for every variant of post.
I didn't like the r slash heads subs either, tbh. Something about posting links with no other context doesn't lend itself well for music discussion.
I think they have some nice stuff, threads for general discussion, a thread for music discussion, but also I was pretty fond of the Roasts/Toasts. I think things like reoccurring threads for specific instruments, theory, etc are nice to have. In general, most music boards are just really boring because they turn into "post link for points & never comment" but this community is still super small. Just trying to keep stuff in mind.
you've posted one thread in music two weeks before this. why did you stop there? this community is new and small enough that if you start posting the type of thing you want to see, there's a good chance you will actually have an effect on the future content of this community.
edit: my issue in this community is the fact that no one justifies their posts. for all i know everyone who posts a context free youtube video is an account controlled by google as a strange way to advertise. Maybe people have figured out a way to enjoy music without thinking about it at all? whatever the case, if someone tells me why they like something i am a billion times more likely to listen to it.
i didn’t incur any damages that need remuneration so i think we’re good.
Ill let it slide this time sir. Somebody make this guy a mod.
i could translate czech socialist music for you if you really want that obscure shit lmfao
know any songs relating to the Prague Spring or Jan Palach's self-immolation ?
holy necropost batman. idk a lot of it tends to be very nationalistic and gross. like a lot of right wingers talk about forcibly removing / killing germans and russians today. as in just people that moved there recently. those kinda people love the prague spring. theres also a religious element to it where people like to liken him to jan hus.
Interesting! I didn't think right wingers would view socialists like Dubček as one of theirs (or indeed Palach). What does the Czech left make of the Prague Spring today?
they see it as generally bad but there were some redeeming figures. tbf most of the czech left are boomers so anyone trying to change things up = bad. dubcek later was chairman after the overthrow of communism and the rape of czechoslovakia by capitalists so hes got a bit more to him than just being a socialist reformer. he also joined the socdems in slovakia
Thx for the info :) I flunked a history of Czechoslovakia class so this helps fill in the gaps of that godawful class (prof was a hardcore Slovak nationalist who equated communism with Nazism lol). What do you think of Karel Kryl? One of those annoying nationalists?
We're still gonna keep posting youtube and bandcamp links until there are more people here
I can't speak French but it gives me vibes of 50 in 5 by Hilltop Hoods.
if it were up to me it would just be '90s avant-garde dungeon jazz metal
