I see this eye-roll of a bad take here all the time.

Writing off most/all anime (Which, again, is literally any/all animation from Japan regardless of content) is the same thing as writing off most/all western animation: CMV.

Miyazaki is great, nobody talks about The Wind Rises which is a shame because it's about how fascism steals the dreams and productive energy of the main character.

Someone on Chapo recently pointed out to me that Madoka Magica can be interpreted as a scathing allegory for the military-industrial complex.

I just started watching that because of that comment. While I think it’s ok for an anime and I like the animation when they fight witches or whatever I’m not really seeing analogy. Though I just watch anime on occasion because I like all the crazy Japanese weirdness and animation in general. I’m not really expecting to further my political understanding. That’s what Lenin is for

If you just started watching the allegory is not likely to be clear. A key strength of that show is how it subverts expectations. Can't say much more than that without spoilers.
