I see this eye-roll of a bad take here all the time.

Writing off most/all anime (Which, again, is literally any/all animation from Japan regardless of content) is the same thing as writing off most/all western animation: CMV.

Ok I’m just gonna say that this movie has a very underage love interest. Still worth watching because it’s all very G rated but it definitely made me a little uncomfortable watching. I still agree with OP too but porco rosso is not an unassailable example lol.

Interesting. I saw the character of the mechanic's daughter as more having a unrequited crush on Porco Rosso, the middle aged pig. In the movie, every man is a pig, but Porco is the only one open about it. His honor and tragedy comes from his self-effacing celibacy. He is self-aware enough to rebuff the advances of the young girl, but hates himself too much to settle down with his true love, that woman on the island. I always saw the girl's advances as something Porco unequivocally rejected, as a strangely honorable pig man.

Damn you know what I think you’re analysis is much better than mine. You’ve brought me around. Such a visually stunning movie, I loved it and now I love it even more! Definitely a movie about dissecting different kinds of masculinity. And Italian excellence.
