Mm yes, have you considered that it's actually the countries that identify as communist that deserve criticism? I am totally a leftist and my understanding of geopolitics is definitely greater than a child's.
My comment about Trotskyism/left opposition got removed by the mods the other day for sectarianism, so I will reproduce that here in a more politically correct manner: there is a diversity of leftist opinions and there will always be leftists and socialists who see AES as red fascism, capitalist and imperialist, but this doesn’t make them any less of a communist. Trotskyists by all accounts are legitimate communists, they simply believe that the American imperialism is preferable to Chinese imperialism.

I can understand some communists having a mostly negative opinion on various AES states and modern China. But when it gets to the point they believe it's somehow worse than American imperialism it's just propaganda-fueled brainworms.
