Hello, we are back folks. I think this is the longest gap I've taken on this series.

I don't know if this counts but Jedi: Fallen Order was really enjoyable to me. I think it counts as a Metroidvania. It definitely lifts aspects from the design philosophy.

If you've ever wanted to play Dark Souls but Dark Souls is too hard then this game is probably a good start. One of my favourite things about the game is the combat. Apart from one skill at the end of the skill tree, there is absolutely no way to increase your lightsaber damage. You have to learn how to hit enemies rather than upgrade your weapon to do more damage to them. It's probably the best lightsaber combat since the Jedi Knight series. There's a great sense of progression where enemies that would have once kicked your ass are easily dispatched once you learn how to kill them, but if you're not paying attention you can still get killed easily by them, especially on the higher difficulties.

To give an example of the combat there are repeating blaster troopers early on that could kick your ass if you don't pay attention. All you can do in the early game is maybe reflect their first shot back at their shield and deflect all the others, you then have to run up to them and whack them the moment their gun overheats. Later on, when your character improves, you can now reflect their entire volley straight back into them with a well-timed block.

The game also rewards your exploration with lore nuggets, cosmetics, and XP.

Oh, and the planets are really pretty.
