Absolute trash.
I would argue that banning hate groups makes things better over the very long term because there's less ability for those ideas to grow. Like before fatpeoplehate was banned, their weird terminology would leak out into threads all over reddit, and it didn't get much better immediately after they were removed from the site. But nowadays I don't really see their specific brand of fatphobia.
I think that might only be true if advocacy groups aren't also banned. And while Reddit hasn't been as quick on the banhammer there, the existence of this site (which when on reddit was one of the only non-specific subs that was solidly against oppression in any form) shows that it has driven those that might be counterbalancing hate groups, or at least ensuring that the general subs turn into a massive shitshow.
Yeah, you're probably right. The banning of T_D certainly didn't help though.
They already scrammed to donald.win or w/e dumb shit they called it.
I remember going there once or twice and there were still 2 month old posts in /new
The ban didn’t do anything but remind any reactionaries that didnt get the memo that reddit was doing a 1984 or something
yeah i agree. reddit is one big hate group now, but it really always was.
or they are ultra niche and low pop
tbh most people aren't really fit to broadcast their opinions on the internet, so this isn't a bad thing
a lot fewer people were using the internet back in the 2000s, toothey're in real life now. you want intellectual validation/fashion advice from hot people you have to log off
how long have you been using Reddit for? it's a lot better now than it was around 2016, for instance.
They always were everywhere, it wouldn't be reddit otherwise
Now they're just meeting on discord and wherever else, allowing them to diffuse throughout reddit lol
