Edit: this makes me realize the old internet was a lot better. You could find so many sites by interesting people. Now you just hit refresh on like only 4 sites all day and you want to die.
Here's my old man internet memory for the day:
I remember downloading replay files for Warcraft 3 along with .mp3s of "commentary" that independent creators would put out, some of them pro players, usually players participating in the game, but not always. Sometimes it was just someone that was funny but also knowledgeable about the game, so you'd load it up, sync up the timestamp per the replay mp3 file, countdown, hit play - and you'd just watch it and listen.
It was like a bizarre asynchronous stream, and I loved the fuck out of them. The only thing like it that still exists is stuff like fighting game commentary youtube videos.
The FGC was streaming entire tournaments world wide on like 5 mbit connections before youtube was even a thing
