    Remember that one Redditor who claimed he was dating a Russian girl who told him that people in the Soviet Union weren't allowed to learn compass bearings or how to read maps so they couldn't escape?

    Sorta hope the Russian girl was real and was just messing with him, tbh.

      My favorite was the ones about Soviet maps having fake roads and big blank spots once you hit West Germany because they didn't want you to get out. Not because the iron curtain didn't give them access to that cartographic data.
