I have ADHD and so my brain is wired to require constant stimulation. In order to focus (and I mean this is a big requirement for me) I either need music, podcasts or videos to get through most tasks, especially mundane ones.
For podcasts if I'm just doing basic work like cooking, cleaning or desk work it's easy for me to pay attention to what's going on in a podcast. If I'm talking to someone though I usually do have to pause unless I'm just listening to some music.
