I can acknowledge that the community has become much more than a podcast fan community, and I’m glad it has, but I never thought I’d see admins explicitly disparaging the show and its listeners and asserting that we should all be okay with the forum as a whole distancing itself from it. It just seems needlessly antagonistic, and I don’t see how they expect it to help anything.
People online love being contrary. When I was on the Halo forums there were no shortage of people who would tell you at any opportunity that Halo is a bad game, sucks, etc., and then you go to their profile that they went to the trouble to link and they have hundreds of hours in the game. Same shit.
We became a general leftist sub (in theory). A lot of people liked the culture without listening to the podcast. That was me at first.
But the podcast has sway over the community, even those who don't listen to it still get caught up in it.
