If the litterbox is up against a wall try putting it so the entrance is facing that wall, but with enough room for your cats to comfortably get in/out. This only works if there is an entrance, so covered trays (door optional). Roommates cat has a tendency to zoom out of the box, spreading the gravel. There being a wall acts as a sort of speed bump, and any escaping gravel will stay near the box (hopefully)

the trick is to put the exit hole towards the corner, then they have to come out over the perforated top and down onto the hexagon mat
