OK so I promise I'm not a hail corporate shill, but look into the Purina Tidy Cat litter box system. It's amazing. It uses dehydrating pellets and a pee pad, so the pee soaks through to the pad (replaced weekly) and the pellets dehydrate the poop until you scoop it out. The pellets are big, so even if your cat literally throws them around (which they probably won't, they're kind of heavy) it's very easy to clean up. I cannot emphasize how much cleaner and easier this is than using a normal litter box. Highly recommend you looking into it.
