maybe im built different but i've had very little opinions about both names. Like i see arguments for both but ultimately i think the name change is for the best now that I've thought about it more. I care more about the people who genuinely want to disassociate with both chapo and the idea of a "chapo community." While chapo is pretty fuckin' popular, like almost virtually nothing that is posted here has anything to do with them at all. It kinda just didn't make sense to hold on to a relic of the past. I mean it served its purpose, we got pretty much everybody who was a r/CTH refugee to sign up already, there just isn't a good enough reason to hold onto the name anymore.

I forgot who did the post, I think it was TransComrade69 mentioned she tried to get a labor activist or someone legit to come post on the site and then had to explain a bunch of bullshit about how, "no we're not chapo, we don't have anything to do with chapo" and to me that just says a lot about how tainted the name is.

      how tainted the name is

I'm in favor of the name change but I hope the name is tainted because of the pod/left media grifter/poisoned irony part and not the targeted harassment. Diversity of tactics is important and besides radicalization and pushing folks to irl praxis that's probably the best thing that happens here.

Yeah, I also don't care if CTH gets "smeared in the media". The media is going to smear anything vaguely leftist that gains popularity, so you better practice pushing back against it.

Yeah sorry if I wasn't clear, I did mean the actual chapo name was the issue not the website/THIS community. More like the chapo twitter and old reddit community (old mods and a few other users!) I still listen to chapo every now and then but like I can skip 10 episodes and just not care, so it's not important to me in the least. I think my issue was I just didn't care enough because I didn't really see why people who wanted it changed wanted it changed so bad. So that was just me being ignorant and letting myself have a blind spot.

Oh yeah I remember both the OP and TC69 recounting their hesitance (it was a PSL rep). It's just there are two different (though overlapping) vectors for being worried about the name, and it was never clear which.

To be clear, it's shitty when anyone from CTH stans to channers to qanon boomers do targeted harassment. But it's still a valid tactic in the pursuit of liberation.

It's one vector for where the rep comes from. If one of the podcasters gets called out for punching down they call in the dogs (like most folks in edgy media).

It's also why dunk_tank posts that are screenshots without links get a 'link the tweet lib' response. So folks can go dunk.

Targeted harassment is a useful tool against oppression. It's also a useful tool to oppress. But hating the tactic and not how it's directed is about the same as being a pro-gun control leftist. Under no pretext and all that

No I did. Pretending sending that sending threats to randos online is a useful tactic in the liberation against oppression. Seriously? Yeah this definitely isn't the site for me.
