You don't have to believe "animals deserve human rights" (ie: give the same amount of moral consideration when it comes to humans and non-human animals) to think we shouldn't kill them for food. You can believe in a hierarchy, be speciesist, and still think it's bad to kill animals or cause them needless suffering (most people would say they're against animal abuse in general, this is just applying that concept to food, clothing, etc.).
