Everyone is, rightly, talking about how emotionally fucked up they are by the genocide in Gaza. There is much commiserating about how much pain and suffering we are all experiencing by being forced to witness these events unfold. Most of us on Hexbear live under Western governments that openly endorsing it, which only compounds how horrible it feels.

If you aren't taking action as much as you're able, you need to be for a couple of reasons.

  1. The scale and speed of the crisis demands it, particularly if you are living a comfortable western lifestyle.

  2. Posting and whining without action will drive you into a terrible depression.

  3. Taking action is palliative emotional care for the person doing it.

Go to a rally, donate, but most importantly, join an organization. Let this drive you to become an active revolutionary organizer.

I have been a PSL member for about a year and a half now, but I've never been more active than in the past three weeks. I have dedicated an hour or two every day, at least, to doing concrete work on this. My message to you wailing and gnashing teeth is that it helps. I feel better when I can look at myself and say "I did not sit idly by today". At the very least, do yourself the favor of being involved.

Communism is the movement to abolish the present state of things. If you are not a real member of that movement, you are not a real communist. Step up. This should motivate you, not turn you into a helpless slug.

Also: pay attention to what orgs were ready to go on this. Not the ones that are just now inserting themselves. Find out who organized marches on Oct 7 and Oct 14. Those are more likely to be coherent anti-imperialist organizations with strong local connections. Consider joining those orgs.

I tried to join PSL a few years back. Filled out the application and nobody ever responded. Tried a second time, and the same thing happened. Left a pretty bad taste in my mouth

This happened to me too. This seems to be the most common problem with the org, especially with new branches.

Not to doxx myself, but I'm in an area without a PSL Chapter and I'd like to help start one, but my applications have been roundly ignored (I've received no response besides being added to email lists). Is there anything that can be done on this front?

Would you mind DMing me? Depending where you are I may know the specific person to speak to, and if not I can figure it out and get you connected.

You don't need permission to start a communist org! You can always find 2 comrades and make your own! It's 100% okay for it to start out as a reading group that takes straightforward actions (attend and support protests, get involved in labor, etc).

If your org stays of the same vein, you can always choose to become the PSL chapter for your area if PSL ever becomes nationally competent enough to follow up on applications.
