The octopus has become a contemporary Hanukkah mascot because they have 8 legs (for the 8 night holiday). I often get little octopus trinkets for Hanukkah presents.

I'm Jewish and that card creeps me. I like octopuses. Japanese illustrations with them are cute. But western cartoon octopuses with a focus on their legs reminds me of cartoons showing how evil/corrupt entries manipulate things for their own benefit.

I like really the Standard Oil octopus cartoon. I never remember cartoons yet I have had a fondness for it ever since I saw it more than 20 years ago.

But octopuses can represent Jews too.

A Nazi German cartoon c. 1938 depicts Churchill as a Jewish-controlled octopus encircling the globe.

From the other comments here this just seems to be a normal thing. The octopus has no relation to old propaganda and is only used because it has 8 legs and can hold all the candles.

Definitely get the context presented, but it seems to be common enough that whoever made this just linked the 8 legs with the 8 candles and thought it was cute.

    Agreed. Sus as shit.

Israel might have a modicum of my respect if they focused their hatred of Palestinians on western antisemites, an actual threat to Jews everywhere.
