Musk is going to suggest we replace large container ships with millions and millions of individual autonomous self-propelled containers that just travel around like pods of whales. Everyone will think that it's a great idea despite it being incredibly inefficient and technologically impossible.

Either that or he'll say that he's thinking about adapting his Tesla self-driving technology so that it can be used by cargo ships. Then some sea captain with 40 years of navigating experience will tell him that that's not going to work and everyone will call him an asshole for being closed minded.

Underwater ships! You know like uh, submarines or something? But made specificaly for trading. Small boats capable of moving underwater, fully automated*. You have a problem in the surface? Hide it beneath the waves!

*Actually they're not, they require a crew of at least one to keep everything in check. Construction costs will be cut after the first batch of 15 submarines, it's also a high risk-low paying job.

Yes, critics (haters) of the program say that welding is not done properly and that there are numerous leaks around the hull, with water reaching the batteries which would then explode. Also batteries have a random chance of catching fire. They're made by TESLA.

Maybe the other cargo ships could be put into big submarines and sailed under the one blocking the channel?

What about some orbital lazer cannon that can cut through the earth and make canals on the fly.
