Besides aliens and UFOs, not sure what to think about those. But seriously, watching these TOP 10 NIGHTMARE INDUCING VIDEOS on youtube is just blurry shadows of someone poking their head around a corner or someone in a costume. I get that people want to believe in the paranormal, but c'mon guy, I've seen b-movie schlock more convincing than the shit out there.

Imagine there was life after death but it was actually just exactly how ghosts are portrayed in ghost hunting shows

An eternity just floating around with no way to interact with the world except making rooms slightly colder or causing mild electromagnetic fluctuations

I always found it interesting that in an age where everyone has a decent camera on them we still don't have any definitive images of any paranormal activity or creatures

Not saying that everyone who experienced something is lying, but I do think people tend to leap to the extraordinary when it could be something ordinary

If anything, the footage today is even worse and less convincing than it was like a decade ago. Dunno if I've just become more skeptical or what, but the stuff on youtube is absolute horseshit.

Like so much of it is obviously faked

Especially when you compare it to something like the Patterson-Gimlin footage which still has people arguing over whether it was real

ikr? That footage even has me scratching my head but nothing that I've seen within like the decade has ever really stuck with me. Bigfoot and UFOs/aliens are two topics I think there's something to but ghosts and shit, everything I've seen is so obviously fake.

Materialism strikes again. But for real, human memory is much more mutable and influenced by emotions than we care to admit, so like people who remember seeing something weird will remain convinced it happened, and arguing it is pointless, as it seems like gaslighting from their brain pov.

This is why I find gangstalking to be such an interesting phenomenon and plays into this.

I find it horrifying tbh, that at some point in life my brain can decide some weird shit and I wouldn’t even know it

I used to get real paranoid about shit when I was a reactionary, but it's weird now that I'm a leftist I guess I just take things in stride? Not sure, but like I said, I'm much more grounded in my analysis of things now.

I posted it as a joke in another thread the other day, but I was 100% convinced for years as a kid that this dude in a fancy-coloured old-timey van had come to our house in the middle of the day and just started methodically stealing everything out of our pantry, like all the pasta and biscuits and shit, and me and my family were just standing there powerless to do anything about it as he took load after load of our food (and nothing else) out into his truck. My parents have confirmed that I went on about this for years, so it wasn't just me thinking that I thought this as a kid. And the memory is so fucking vivid, even though the whole thing is so patently ridiculous. But yeah who knows how much other more-plausible shit my brain has told me I remember over the years, even though it's complete bullshit? It's kinda scary stuff

I still have a vividly real memory of a green man smiling at me through my window. I'm sure it was a sleep paralysis shit, but I always avoid looking out windows at night now.

If top of the line scientific equipment can’t capture evidence

Well I see SOMEONE hasn't seen the arsenal of hardcore hardware Zak Bagans uses and the AMAZING evidence he has captured on his popular show, Ghost Adventures

If it is real to the person, it is real. There are recorded cases of "curses", or other cultures equivalent, of causing extreme psychosomatic symptoms up to death. During Exorcism people actually do lose control of their actions.

There is a common culture regarding some form of hag or demon causing sleep paralysis and nightmares.

Here's the wiki page I found. Do not look at the picture if you want to sleep well tonight. That "horse" creeps me out.

I also had a fever the other day (vaccine lol) and I got flashing images of a warped face in my mind as I was drifting off to sleep. Your mind screws with you normally, imagine what it does when it's overheating lol

I saw images like that all the time before falling asleep when i had an appartment with a really dark bedroom. Just a constant stream of faces, mostly human ones, but also animals, robots and aliens from time to time. Just constantly warping from one face to the other. Most of them didn't look frightening once i got used to that, some where even outright beautiful. A few times, i'd see other things as well, like geometrical patterns or architecture, but faces where by far the most common.

Yeah, it's like your brain is randomly generating faces. I think the fever made them a bit more frightening than usual though.

Most likely, especially with ghosts. I've had episodes of it in the past and it seems like a ghost is at the foot of your bed.

My one (hopefully) experience with sleep paralysis was a tall, feminine void person. Completely black. Blacker than the dark room she was in, which is how you could see her.

She was really scary even though she didn't actually do anything other than stand completely still.

skeptics guide to the universe podcast does a good job covering this kinda stuff. the first couple of seasons are good but it goes down hill over time. their politics are lib, but mostly they try to 'avoid' politics, so its manageable
