skeptics guide to the universe podcast does a good job covering this kinda stuff. the first couple of seasons are good but it goes down hill over time. their politics are lib, but mostly they try to 'avoid' politics, so its manageable

The only luck I've ever had with this sort of thing is commmiting 100% to it. Turn off your internet, give your phone to a friend, etc. Make sure you have other things to do, but just, you know, do the thing.

Lots of the world messed this up. Are still messing this up. Maybe it would have been contained and thus fixed, but really the only example of 'western' countries doing it right are places like New Zealand, which were able to lock down damatically. USA would never do the sort of dramatic thibgs needed to contain this, regardless of who is president.
