      Imagine going to some far-off continent 4000 miles away to "fight for your country" only to risk your life killing some conscripted German boys all the while being yelled at by some dipshit white officer. After you come home, your country thanks you by killing your loved ones, burning your community to the ground and covering it all up, leaving you and your immediate descendants destitute and traumatized. Just Rosewood Tulsa Elaine America things.

      In fairness/seriousness, for African-Americans, military service helped tremendously in not only gaining momentum for Civil Rights movements, but also training and experience. Very useful things against racial mob violence.
