This might have to do with how different sites classify cases. Say a state on a Friday reports "on Wednesday we had 3000 cases, and on Thursday we had 4000 cases." Site A might choose to add 7000 to the state's case numbers for Friday, whereas Site B might choose to go back and add them to Wednesday's and Thursday's numbers. It's about when the cases were detected versus when they were publicized.

I think restaurants are a bad idea all the time during an airborne pandemic without a sterilizing vaccine, though there is room for some calculated risks if the case load is particularly low in your area.

Masks are absolutely capable of protecting you if you use an actual N95 or a Bane respirator mask instead of the shitty leaky cloth and paper masks.

In case you aren't already, you should be using properly fitted N95 (FFP2 in Europe) masks, as they actually filter the air you breathe. Cloth and paper masks are leaky and don't provide sufficient protection against airborne hazards (like covid). These N95 masks are technically disposable, but in practice they're pretty reusable.

I've heard that the 3M Aura masks are pretty good, they can be acquired at Home Depot.

Big doubt. It's really fucking difficult to not get enough protein on a plant-based diet if you're eating adequate calories each day. The "proteins are only found in animal sources" thing is a ridiculous myth.
