Yep, working on my own, trying to save what money I can, and if this one goes then nothing I can afford to replace it with will be much better anyway. I've been interested in it for a long time anyway. And if it does need to go then maybe I won't need to panic about all million and one problems that can show up on another second hand car!

Most I've done is charged a battery or wired in a dashcam (6 months after I got it...)

And yes it would be so useful to do my own brake/oil changes. Plus if you do it yourself you know you've done it right.

Even for an oil change though I need to get axle stands, a proper jack, probably a torque wrench if I want to get the wheel nuts on right because I have no feel for the right (and safe) tightness... not too huge but it adds up... I know what I need to get if I do but it can easily add up to £100+ in an instant. I do spend hours looking through stuff and checking things are correct and at the best price I can find. At least I do have a socket set and a breaker bar.

It would be a no brainer if I knew I was going to make use of them... I guess I could bail myself out by selling them on if I don't use them, right?

If someone laughs at an asshole for an irrelevant thing they didn't choose and can't change, and I also have that thing, then it doesn't affect me any less because the person they were having a go at is a horrible person. They still might as well be saying it to me... reminds me people will pick up on it. I think it's a lazy excuse because having a cheap go at someone shitty feels good.

I guess the otherwise considerate people I've seen doing it online do stay away from things that are true problems or impediments though. But still, people can feel really shitty about common differences. I dunno... just find something else. Just call them an asshole.
