Glad we might actually see some justice here but of course it only happens when the officers are black. The video must be horrific judging by the reaction of everyone who has seen it (including the police chief). They are already begging people not to riot.

the article says one of the guys already had a complaint for excessive force against them, for beating an inmate unconscious. guy just wakes up all fucked up in the medical ward. it says the judge tossed the case because the inmate didn't file their grievance within 30 days of the incident.

    fuck. this. place.

Prisoners are deprived of their rights in all sorts of creative and cruel ways.

"When video of the arrest is publicly released, Davis said she expects people in the community to react, but she urged them to do so peacefully.."

      Oh god.

The only thing I can think about this is that the footage is so horrible that the pigs and the Memphis city government are literally, viscerally in fear for their lives and don't think a cover up would save them. I can't come up with any other explanation for their behavior than that they genuinely think they can't bring the boot down hard enough to save themselves.

Releasing it on a Friday night is a bold move. Are they banking on people being too busy with their Friday night activities to riot?

The weekend is gonna be freaking wild given how this footage appears to be fucking horrible and likely another Floyd style murder

So yeah good they are getting charged but I agree that it was most definitely because they were black as plenty of departments are down to throw anyone not male and white under the bus when needed. Fuck I can already hear the locker room talk of the white hogs going "glad we cleared out those diversity hires, now lets go shoot some dogs and a kid in a wheelchair".

I thought it was par for the course to fire the police officer so they can get a job somewhere else and flee the heat.

To fire yes and then rehire a county or two down, allowing the charging with second degree murder is a whole other basket that police departments and unions lay awake at night in cold sweat about.

i hope y'all haven't gotten to the point where a second degree murder charge is a plus on the curriculum. as in 'welcome to the punisher squad bucko'.

I more or less meant that cops fear legal repercussions for their actions, it's why those given leave or fired might be pissed but even then it's barely a slap on the wrist. Though as my previous comment mentioned I believe cops are also cool with removing those "not cop enough" from them (i.e. female cops, see the previous cops having sex with female cop scandal, or minority cops cuss it is structurally very much a good ole boys club). I also don't get the ‘welcome to the punisher squad bucko’.

i mean that those officers could get acquitted and then quickly hired by a reasonable and very well adjusted precinct somewhere. but perhaps i'm underestimating the fact that they were charged at all.

That is always a possibility sadly, however again this is a stage of legal enforcement most pig unions never wanted to get to (cops having to go to court to defend their actions). Now to a liberal this means the system is "okay and self regulating", but we know that's bullshit and these dudes deserve a firing squad since we know even if convicted they can be released early depending on their final sentencing.

IIRC there were/are police gangs in LA that require prospective members to kill someone to join, so anything's possible.

everyone is throwing these guys under the bus. The Memphis police chief, THE PRESIDENT, police chiefs from random cities around the country. The LAPD has a post up asking people to snitch on Antifa.

I don't know what is on that tape. Like I can't imagine what degree of brutality could provoke this kind of response pre-emptively. I've seen police do some truly horrific things and it never provoked a response from the establishment anything like this.

Plus the governor of Georgia just mobilized 1,000 troops to crush dissent over Cop City. Someone dropped a brick on the accelerator and America is headed in to the Cool Zone.
