The law actually says you don't have to try and retreat, it said so in the jury instructions. But the court can consider if you did. Also, he would be acting in self-defense of others (like jump kick man) more so then himself, so idk if the retreat thing would matter or not. You're probably right that it would really depend on the court and jury.
I guess the lesson is that, in America, if you pull your gun out, don't hesitate to use it. Gaige could've shot Rittenhouse as soon as Rittenhouse pointed his weapon at jump kick man, or at least when he fired, and would have probably got off on self-defense as easily as Rittenhouse. Would have saved a life and his own arm.

idk, in my expierence, the fact that he can even talk as much as he is shows he's doing okay. If he was having any of the serious breathing or coughing symptoms he wouldn't be able to talk much. Maybe it's different for everyone, but that's what I've seen.
