But yeah, I’m old, and I’m a virgin, and while it doesn’t bother me much anymore, it’s really bad praxis to call people virgins as an insult or to make fun of them for being virgins. Incels are bad not because they are virgins but because they just blame women for their cause. Make fun of them for their shitty beliefs, not because they are virgins.
But seriously, that’s all I have to say. Please think before using virgin as an insult. It’s just a state of being, that of having not had sex, and every single one of you were a virgin at some point in time.
I totally understand where you're coming from, but I do think to some degree you are projecting an insecurity onto an insult that is meant to be facetious and childish. You could replace "begging these people to have sex" with "begging these people to go outside" and you have an identical implication with the insult but without a sex-negative admonishment contained in the sentence. To that degree, you are right, it's not hard to focus on your diction and prevent yourself from using words that other people might find offensive, but the whole point is that the aim is to make fun of the people and be insulting, and there's no real level of discourse involved beyond a surface level insult, and that surface level insult in this case is derived from social expectations and sexual culture.
To expand further, I think an incel would never engage with you to the degree that you can genuinely make fun of their beliefs. Their world view is insular, and they are masturbatory in their correlations between how they act, how people respond to them and how it reinforces their worldview. To a person like that, all you can do is some flippant insult and hope it hurt their feelings, because you're never really talking TO them, simply AT them. So I would say to you - it seems that you are looking at an insult directed at people who are far different from you, and seeing a single quality that you share and then thinking that it must be directed at that trait that you and incels share, instead of the entire identity of the person that's being lambasted. It's probably not healthy to analyse yourself to the point where you are taking insults that are directed at morally repugnant group like incels as trigger points or something to be upset about. I think that in general, the level of discourse is so low that you're going to continually run into this kind of language and it's going to put your mental state in the dumpster. So I think you probably need to work on yourself and your self-security, but I also think you're completely correct (even if many people won't agree or won't even consider the implication of their language being sex-negative) so I will avoid that kind of language in the future.
