"speaking out against anti-Semitism" in this context means calling anyone who criticises Israel anti Semitic while desperately trying to brush the greedy blood drinking hook nosed goblin bankers that have a star of David on the floor under a massive rug

    "Left-wing journalist apologises"

Stop doing this. Stop validating the right-wings bullshit. They are counting on you giving them the benefit of the doubt. They are not arguing in good faith so don't play civil with them. Never apologise for being correct.

the only reason she apologised was because JK Rowling threatened to sue her because the UK is a fucked up country where any nineteeneightyfour 1984 wrongspeak nineteeneightyfour can get you taken to court and bled dry from legal fees under our fucked up libel laws

yeah, as much as jk rowling goes on about how free speech needs to be utterly protected, she's constantly threatening to sue people who criticise her to shut them up, basically lays bare how all she wants """free speech""" for is to post increasongly fascistic rants on her twitter without criticism

yeonmi-park In the authoritarian land of Britain, you can be hateful, but when someone calls you out, they can be silenced by threatening them with kangaroo trials. They even force you to apologize at the point of cancelling you and your career.

        spoiler

Sorry for my poor attempt of a Park Yeonmi style comment.

      Always double down.

"Yeah, you're not a holocaust denier, you're a holocaust supporter. One more word and I'm downgrading you to holocaust perpetrator."

I'm unfamiliar with the UK, is saying something that's technically and colloquially accurate, and JKR's exact tweets being available to scrutinize, not a valid rebuttal of JKR's (libel/defmation/etc) claims?

it would be, and the journalist could plausibly win but only after an incredibly drawn out and expensive legal fight that would bleed most people dry long before it was over

Reminder that Johnny Depp lost his case against Amber Heard in England where he thought it'd be easier. You can openly publish thst Johnny Depp is a wife beater in england, the courts said so.

The journalist was forced to apologize under threat of legal sanction. Libel/defamation laws in the UK are absolutely unhinged, and heavily favor the "right" of rich people to not have mean things said about them by anyone. JKR loves using legal threats to silence all criticism of her. She sues people for making fun of her all the time.
