Lord of the Rings: The Hunt for Gollum was announced to be in development on May 9, 2024 with a planned release in 2026. The script is being developed by Fran Walsh and Philippa Boyens and set to be directed by and star Andy Serkis.

    Why do people care about this? Have we all forgotten peter jacksons lotr movies were not the first?

      They set a high bar and are timeless.

      Most people agree they cannot be improved upon, attempts since have proven this. The hobbit was meh. The rings of power was meh.

        I don't know about their timelessness. I found them a bit dated last I watched them. Legolas skateboarding down a staircase on the back of a shield while shooting several arrows at once is perhaps the single most early 2000s thing on screen.

        I enjoyed the rings of power, but at least in part because it upset so many dickheads online.

        Anyway my question was rhetorical, abolish copyright, let me make a lotr film.
