I just realized the “Chocolate Rain” song is about systemic racism. Amazing how millions saw that, ignored the message of the lyrics, and their take away from it was “hehe little skinny guy have deep voice”
Edit: tbf most saying that were probably kids who maybe didn’t understand the meaning.
I've seen Tay Zonday hanging around comment sections on Marxist Youtube. He's a cool dude.
TIL he's enby
(I think he still goes by he/him)
I didn't know people think it's funny. I thought it's viral because his voice is very impressive. It's also an earworm. I always saw it as a sad party song. Like the song I'm Blue(dabadee).
Edit: I just listened to it in full for the first time and read the lyrics. It's chilling poetry. You're completely right.
I have complex thoughts about chocolate rain. I was introduced to it from many different white folks who thought it was hilarious, but I really didn't(and still don't) get what was funny about it. White people made a weird culture about it (like with Harambe) to the point of it getting mentioned on TV like south park. For my peace, I just ignored the hype but glad to know he's based.
Same tbh. I never even watched the entire video when it went viral. Just saw it once for a few seconds while these white dudes were laughing so loudly I couldn’t hear the lyrics.
