I'd say Kojima's politics leans closer to some sort of anarchism than being a communist, I think. Regardless chuds are dumb and think wearing a Che shirt makes you a communist revolutionary.

Yeah pretty sure this one's it.

MGS V shows the downfall of Big Boss to a villain, except when it came out many people were wondering when that happened as you just go "good guy" shit for the entire game. Certainly, you save the world.

The whole thing, including the literal Big Boss 1984 Posters that hang around on motherbase makes a whole lot of more sense for a villainous downfall if you approach it from an anarchist perspective.

I personally feel that the 'downfall' of Big Boss is more metaphorical, while gamers wanted to playact committing warcrimes or something. I've commented on it before, but BB splits from the Patriots because he doesn't want clones of himself, then goes ahead and makes one anyway in the form of Venom. Especially considering how you never really play as the big man himself, while Venom does a lot of mostly good things under his name, the game has a lot of underthemes about identity and it being stolen.

I feel like the overlooked point is that even Venom creates a private military state with nukes and force recruiting, loads of it via brainwashing.

Like I know it's cool and shit but that's not a good thing.

It's pretty apparent from the games that Kojima believes that America and the culture it represents is evil

I think analysis of the games really suffered due to how young the audience for it was. Like you have people reading MGS2 as predicting social media because the timeline of the internet is skewed for them to the point they aren't aware that Kojima was talking about existing BBS and forums in 2001. The entire context that the game was written by a well off Japanese dude who had access to all these emerging technologies during the height of the dot com bubble sort of got lost.

There was a period where my Youtube recommendations were swamped with videos called stuff like "MGS2 DESTROYS SJWS" and it gave me a migraine, just the worst.

Conservative analysis of Metal Gear Solid is so superficial it’s funny
