It’s interesting the people they chose. In the first photo there’s a black guy in a fairly standard casual/business outfit. But I think the thing they’re showing of is that they allow for natural hairstyles and facial hair.
Then then next photo is a white woman. But they’re showing her in pants (like men!) and that her shirt isn’t low-cut.
Next is a Sikh man and Muslim woman. Showing that they allow traditional head wear.
Finally is the photo I posted. Showing a woman in a skirt meaning they allow skirts but not too short and again a conservative top.
This brings me to the last example. What would you say they’re trying to say with the painted nails and earrings? I have my own suspicions.
I think blursed is appropriate here, cursed because it's fucking megacorp finally approving new ways for people to present, but blessed because this is likely the trajectory social acceptance will take in the US.
Like I can imagine trans acceptance will look like Target or Walmart eventually changing their clothing sections to "masculine" and "feminine" and also having gender non-conforming people in their stock photos, kind of like how they might have a black woman or disabled person. So when a kid sees clothing they like, and a picture of someone with the same sex as them wearing those clothes, they'll have a cue to go off of.
never seen a garment like that before. what is it, a semicoat? looks like they stitched a tail onto a blazer. i just don't see a person dressing like this unless they're being forced to but I can't imagine any job that would require this. orchestral conductor?
is this like a 'you can only be this gay if you're going to work here' sign?
It's supposed to be an evening white-tie tailcoat (what you wear when the girls are wearing full-skirted ball gowns, and a tuxedo just doesn't cut it anymore), but it's mixed with daywear and the waistcoat is all wrong and it ends up looking like a half assed version of regency attire. Unless you're a classical soloist or get to go to high society gigs you'll not see it except maybe at a wedding.
He should be wearing a swallowtail coat (which has a single button and sort of flares out in a curve to tails) if he wants ultra-formal daywear. It shits me.
Looks like the second picture in the tweet is showing that they'll allow tattoos.
Weird vampire guy (I think he's in costume) is showing that facial hair is allowed, along with:
Nails should be clean. If polish is used, it should be the same on each nail and well maintained in one solid color or French manicure style. Charms or decals on nails are not permitted. Fingernails should not exceed one-fourth of an inch beyond the fingertip.
lmao, "you can paint your nails, but do go too crazy with like multiple colors or something".
Cause bracelets, which remind our Guests of the realities of the outside world, are not permitted.
:agony-soviet:
Some people would be legitimately wounded by a cause bracelet - like, there is a sizable portion of their visitors who go there to enter a fugue state where disney cartoons are real, their lives don't exist, and there is only sugared pretzels and the double-armed embrace of workers dressed as disney mascots. The adult park regulars are freaks, absolute broken people.
True, and I can definitely understand why some people would want to do that.
Still feels wrong though.
What would you say they’re trying to say with the painted nails and earrings? I have my own suspicions.
I'm not sure I understand the implication. It seems to me that they're saying men are allowed to wear earrings and painted nails if they want, which is cool, if about forty years late.
If the tailcoat is anything to go by one of the lifestyles is "having a terrible tailor"
It was really inclusive of Disney to shutdown the animation studio I worked at recently. Especially when we were making a movie based on a webcomic by a lgbtq person and featured lgbtq main characters.
The second picture, the one with the lady in the brown hat also depicts a small inoffensive tattoo on her wrist.
