That's an absolutely slimy article full of disinformation and outright lies. The story is a 90 year old man is retiring and another popular politician appointed by the democratically elected national assembly is expected to take his place, and this fucker can't help but editorialize and smear them.
I hope Raul Castro has a pleasant retirement, and that he lives long enough to enjoy it even a fraction as much as he deserves.
Yeah, sorry, I only read the headline and didn't bother to find another article. I just thought the fact of his retirement was newsworthy on this site.
Don't get me wrong, I'm not blaming you, I'm just appalled at the fuck from NBC who wrote it.
They will never admit that Biden, Obama etc. had openly homophobic views. Instead they will make up bullshit about how they were always firm supporters of LGBT rights but moderated their public statements for pragmatic reasons.
It can't be homophobia sweetie, that's something only republicans and poor people do.
damn, shitty editorial aside, that's pretty dope the dude lasted till 90. I mean part of me has issue with an age like that still in a position of power. However i genuinely don't know how well he did his job still at that age since not everyone completely looses it in their old age, so it's not fair to blanketly state it's bad IMO. Regardless, that's an impressive timeline for him serving since the revolution, that makes me think he was pretty fuckin good regardless of age due to principles and history. im surprised they even mentioned the bay of pigs in that article the most actually lmao
Castro was only running the Communist Party, the actual president was and is Diaz-Canel, who now also has Castro's position. Honestly seems like a pretty smart and well paced hand-off to the new generation.
It's quite likely that he was a figure head for a lot of it and that the heavy lifting was done by other senior party officials with his blessing.
Juan Gonzalez, executive director of the National Security Council, said recently that the “political moment” has changed from the Obama administration years and that “oppression against Cubans is worse today than perhaps during the Bush years.”
Oppression by who? The Americans? lol Biden is pathetic
President Joe Biden campaigned on reversing some of the previous administration’s harsh measures, such as limits on remittances and restricted travel to the island by Americans while focusing on human rights. But so far, administration officials have indicated they won’t be making changes anytime soon. Juan Gonzalez, executive director of the National Security Council, said recently that the “political moment” has changed from the Obama administration years and that “oppression against Cubans is worse today than perhaps during the Bush years.”
