"I don't get it anymore; my dreams were about being the first millenial Raytheon CEO and YOLOing some brown dictator's country, and now people are telling me bombing civilians is wrong; make it make sense; it's this kind of divisive language that makes the conservatives win"

I sent an email to my congressman yesterday with some facts like more Palestinians having died in the last month than civilian casualties since the beggining of the war in Ukraine. No response yet. Not that I'm actually expecting one, but it would be interesting.

I did the same a few days ago and got back a form letter with all kinds of "both sides" and "humanitarian pause" bullshit

Same here. Kinda set me off enough that I looked up the phone numbers for my Congress persons and left angry messages that might get me in trouble. Fuck them.

"Hey congressman, when the genocide finally comes to a close and it's safe to walk around without the threat of violent death; I want to buy you a plane ticket and a year's stay at the rubbles of a Gazan hotel so you can see what's going on over there and come back and tell us about Israel's right to self defense"

Half don’t respond and the other half send you an automated prewritten response that doesn’t address what you said.

“I just wish the congresswoman could listen to these calls for one day,” a staffer told HuffPost.

Dog, hijack the radio and force her to listen to listen to it. These people dont actively control the radio. Whats are they gonna do, yell at you to turn it off? You are in reach of some aspect of power; reach for it

Fire them, which is what they actually care about

I was about to reply with

When did it stop being cool to get fired for standing up for your principles

and then I remembered how uncool it made me and everyone else I've known who did it and how negatively it affected everyone's life.

        fuck.

Then they shouldn't be asking for sympathy. The "epic" historical moments that all these people want to be apart of don't just happen. Sometimes you have to put your job on the line to make that historical difference

That democrat politicians are bewildered by this makes me wonder if the voters are beginning to realize their representatives don't actually represent them.

The politicians are bewildered because they're divorced from the rest of the human race, but the voters should seriously be shocked that they need to harass their representatives into fighting against genocide. They should be shocked that the greatest reaction from dem politicians (aside from some like AOC and Tlaib) upon looking at photos and videos of ragdoll child corpses is 'eh, Israel has a right to defend itself'.

What I'm personally shocked about is that republican voters are also against the slaughter of Arab children. I'd be tempted to be cynical and say it's because they want to be the ones doing it, but I'll give them this W because embracing cynicism as cool and good is being superhero-slop brained.

On Monday, roughly 50 Democrats issued a less-defined call for “a humanitarian pause of limited space and time"
