This is me cringing every time Ola Englund talks about his Dimebag Darrell memorabilia collection, just waiting for him to blurt out some kind of Phil Anselmo apologism.
Oh wow, this singer is cool! I’m going to look up what else he did! Oh. Apparently murder someone because he thought he was gay
Rabid death metal fans: BUT IT TURNED OUT HE WASN'T GAY AFTER ALL SO IT'S NOT HOMOPHOBIC ALRIGHT?
Yeah it sucks, unfortunately this is how any community where the personalities of it's most influential members can be shortened as "contrarianism" is destined to end up. A lot of Metal was just edge for the sake of edge, and this allowed fascists to creep in by hiding behind that sense of contrarianism.
Also because punks literally combated nazis coming to punk shows throughout the 80s.
Yes, unlike Metal, Punk's contrarianism had a political message, one which pushed most fascists away.
I actually prefer Metal to Punk, in fact I listen to more Metal music than any other genre else these days, but I really despise most Metal fans.
Listen to crust. It's both punk as fuck and is basically death metal for people who can't play very well.
Oh yeah. Dude has put out some artwork featuring protocols of the elders of Zion quotes and stuff
There's plenty of better Japanese punk bands with better politics.
Had to do this when Sabaton popped up in some random music playlist on youtube...
"Night Witches" is good, if only for the subject matter. Not the worst power metal I've ever heard, but that's a bar so low that you couldn't limbo with it.
I can't remember the name of the one that kept popping up for a while but the music video was of the Nazis invading the Russia and then the Nazis getting Minecrafted.
Panzerkampf. Sabaton has a real reactionary aesthetic, but they sure make songs about the Red Army crushing Nazis.
That's Immortal though, who as far as I know never did anything fashy
Back in the day i knew this guy in a black metal band who always checked in advance if anybody on the lineup was NSBM, and they played with Immortal once, so i guess they're ok? Anyway, i learned from that band that it's always a good idea to look up the bands you're playing with, i wouldn't want to go on stage and suddenly realize that there's a whole bunch of nazis in the crowd. If antifa in your country has good nazi watch sites up, you may even be able to look up NS and adjacent bands in regularly updated lists. I didn't do the booking back then, so i don't know of any sites like that still running, but i always thought that was good praxis.
While everyone else was doing murders and burning down churchs Immortal was busy LARPing in the woods.
Immortal's message is "forests, mountains and winter are rad"
Still the greatest music video of all time: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-VBdAY8eA9w
Inquisition’s riffs go so hard but the guitarist is a pedo and nazi sympathizer :(
Are Negura Bunget or Batushka (the real one) bad? Haven't heard anything so far so hopefully not because they're both pretty cool.
